It’s a beautiful thing when any relationship lasts 40 years, and Shadows bar has been nurturing the student body of the University of Auckland for several generations now. The birthplace of just as many good ideas as bad ones, a jug at Shadows is a rite of passage akin to donning a graduation robe.

  • Daily happy hours

    Live a little, for crying out loud - every day, Shads has two happy “hours”. From 3pm-5pm and 9pm-11pm, get deals deals deals on some of your fave tipples. Wines, Beers, Cocktails and thanks to our favourite new friends, Scapegrace Gin and Tonic only $10 on happy hour!

  • Burger Pint Tuesdays

    From 5pm - 7pm every Tuesday, you can get a $10 burger with a side of fries if you buy a drink off tap or a soft drink for. There’s a cheese burger or vege option, and we’ve heard that burgers are actually one of the five key food groups crucial to survival.

    Burgers are a good and healthy food for you, the have salad and fries.

  • Quiz Nights!

    Flex your random trivia knowledge in our weekly quiz. Every Tuesday, 6.30pm, with your hosts “The Good Hosts”. This fills up quick because everyone wants a chance to prove themselves and win sicko prizes - we recommend booking a table.

  • Our AUSA whanau get access to heaps of great deals; no booking fees for events, 10% off anything off tap (except Shadows Lager). Just make sure you bring your AUSA sticker to show us.

  • Our menu features something for everyone, at prices for everyone. Our legendary $3 toasties are a key features, but you can find options for vegetarian, gluten-free and hands-free. We also have regular food specials - keep an eye on our social media!

  • We’re not only a spot to party. Grab a $4 coffee and have a more social time studying - talking encouraged, not like that stuffy old library across the road. Boooo library.

  • We have multiple function spaces, and we’d love to host you! Get in touch at events@shadows.co.nz or come and have a chat to us at the bar about your party. Make sure to plan in advance, as we book up quick!
